The Epic Games Online Store

Epic Games, creator of the Unreal Engine and Fortnite, announced that it is rolling out its own online store for computer games. The online Epic Games Store will grant developers 88% of revenue from sales! By sharing revenue with developers, it will give them direct access to customers. Epic will be competing with Valve (Steam) and the Microsoft Windows Store.

At launch, there won’t be much available to the public but that should hopefully change by early 2019. According to the company, “Epic will manually curate the Epic Games storefront rather than relying on algorithms or paid ads. We believe the ultimate vector for players to discover new games will not be our storefront but creators. Viewership of creator channels has greatly outgrown any storefront.”

Epic will also be rolling out something called “Support-a-Creator” which will let customers financially support their favorite entertainer/content creator. Epic will be connected to thousands of Twitch streamers and YouTubers, but it will also bring exposure to new and upcoming game developers.

If you’re a fan of Fortnite, cross your fingers for a successful launch. It’ll lead to better gameplay and a better experience for gamers. Hopefully this online store comes out in early 2019!
