Tips to Navigate Windows 10
Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. There’s no more technical support and there are no more updates, patches, or fixes to keep your computer safe. As a result of the change, users who recently upgraded to Windows 10 may feel stuck; perhaps confused and a little intimidated by all the changes. Although Windows 10 looks completely different from Windows 7, it will be easy to navigate the new platform by following these tips.
The start menu got a makeover. When you click the Windows icon on the bottom left, you’ll see it’s a whole new screen. Microsoft has added so many shortcuts to the left side for easy access, which Windows 7 never had. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Windows icon to get to certain applications more quickly.
Task view is a very cool and useful feature in Windows 10. If you click on the icon next to the circle on your task bar, it will shift your apps and windows in task view. From there, you can see what windows are open, the apps you are running, and even a timeline of items you are working on. If you click “new desktop” at the top, you can create a virtual desktop and use this extra space to continue working. To toggle between your virtual desktops, you can hit Control + Windows Key + Right arrow (to create the virtual desktop) and Left arrow to go back to the previous desktop.
Looking to customize? Right click on your windows icon and select “Settings.” Click on “personalization” and you will see customization options that didn’t exist in Windows 7. You can change colors, backgrounds, the lock screen appearance, themes, and fonts here.
Setting default apps in Windows 10 has never been so easy. Click the windows icon, search “default apps” and select it. From this menu, you can change how certain files open. If you like the Chrome browser and want all shortcuts to open in Chrome, change your default web browser. If you have a certain program you like viewing pictures in, change your default photo viewer app.
Recording and Screenshots
Lastly, if you want to record your computer screen quickly, Windows 10 can do that. Hit the Windows key + G to bring up the Windows 10 Game Bar. You can take screenshots, record the last 30 seconds, or start a new recording. This is very useful if you make videos or want to show someone how to do something on the computer.
