Google’s Live View Makes Phone Navigation Easier
Have you ever had difficulty using your phone navigation while walking around a new place? Google has set out to fix delays in service that impede people from walking the correct path using their phone navigation systems with a new feature called Live View. This view allows users to see the street in augmented reality. In short, it overlays large arrows on the streets while you walk, indicating exactly where you need to go.
Augmented reality uses your phone’s camera and GPS to see where you are and then place arrows and street names in the appropriate spots. You can then hold the phone up to a street and it will direct you where to go in real-time. This new feature is only available while a user is not driving.
To use this application, you will first need to download google maps from the android or IOS store. Then, follow the steps below:
- Open the Google maps app and in the search bar type in where you want to go.
- You will tap directions and then select the walking icon.
- Next to the start button, there will be a live view button. This will start the augmented reality and you can start walking. Follow the on-screen instructions and follow the arrow to your destination.

This feature is in Beta and is not widely available yet but will soon be deployed in an update.
